    I.D.: Individual Demographics
Including: Nola Avienne, Louise Bourgeois, Tim Hawkinson, Glenn Ligon, Deborah Oropallo, Roger Shimomura, Marc Quinn, Tom of Finland, Kohei Yoshiyuki, and others

Artists deal with identity in a myriad of intriguing ways. This show examines identity in terms of the individual (self or self-portrait) versus the group (demographics and ideologies), and addresses complex contemporary issues ranging from anonymity (lack of self) to aspects of fantasy (desired self) or surrogacy (symbolic self.)

Henri Matisse
    Etchings and Lithographs
A selection of more than twenty etchings, drypoints and lithographs spanning Matisse’s artistic career , as well as a few pochoir prints from the “Jazz” suite of 1947. Most of these are small scale portraits of women who were close to the artist drawn in his inimitably persuasive linear style. Matisse’s fluid use of line and pattern bring these images to life through the modest means of black ink on rice paper, though the Jazz works are brilliantly colored to suggest the vibrancy of his cut-out collage works.

DISTANT ECHOES - A Thematic Exhibition
A look at the past, romanticized through the eyes of artists whose works relate to previous eras.
Ross Palmer Beecher, who works with collectible mementos and souvenirs, and the suggestion of quilting, flag or banner making as a way of tying her present work to the past: John Dugdale’s cyanotype photographs with a 19th century romantic feeling; McDermott & McGough with “Sentimental Education,” their new suite of still-life photogravure prints; Tracey Moffatt “Laudanum”, a suite of photogravures exploring a Victorian melodrama of intrigue; Darren Waterston’s paintings that utilize Old Master techniques in the service of contemporary painting.

Civil Progress: Life in Black America
An exhibition of works on the topic of life in Black America by artists of various races from across the United States. Acknowledging that images of African Americans have always been potent parts of America’s artistic history, we recognize that in the past they have rarely been seen as mainstream images. Thankfully, this is changing rapidly as contemporary artists explore new fields of endeavor and previous generations of artists are given renewed respect. Artists include: Diane Arbus, Romare Bearden, Fred Becker, Ross Palmer Beecher, Thomas Hart Benton, Elizabeth Catlett, Robert Colescott, John Steuart Curry, Judy Dater, Adolf Dehn Hugo Gellert, Sam Doyle, William Edmondson, Robert Gwathmey, Philip Guston, David Hammons, Bessie Harvey, Tina Hoggatt, Jacob Lawrence, Glenn Ligon, Paul Maurice, Robert Mapplethorpe, Kerry James Marshall, Elizabeth Olds, Jonathan Parker, Horace Pippin, Robert Riggs, Joyce T.
