Michael Dailey

Works on Paper

November 3 - December 23, 2022

Opening Reception: “First Thursday,” November 3, 6-8pm
Additional reception: “First Thursday”, December 1 at noon

Greg Kucera Gallery is pleased to announce its fifth one-person exhibition of works by Michael Dailey. For more than forty years Michael Dailey worked to capture the nuances of space, light, and atmosphere that shape our sense of time and place. To that end he balanced line and color in sumptuous abstractions that are also the essence of landscape painting.

This exhibition will include works on paper from each decade of Dailey’s career from the 1960s to the 2000s. Dailey's oil paintings from the 1960s through the 1970s reveal his shift from a complex, gestural kind of landscape toward a sublime suggestion of atmosphere in which the land reference is finally reduced to the very bottom edge of the picture plane. As he transitioned from oil to acrylic paint, his format changed from a wide horizontal band of open space to the inclusion of vertical and diagonal elements that suggest the passage of time from one band of color to another.
