“This piece takes the shape of an emoji, or a tombstone, and makes it into something that on the one hand has a very simple gesture, but on the other, belies the sheer beauty of the wood, the carving, the finish.
The horrible/humorous quality to much of my work is present in this piece…a way to show how opposite forces exist side by side, and that the presence of one doesn’t banish the other, but somehow illuminates the other.”
