“In my exhibition Yespalier, everything starts with an armature…but this piece is the armature. What if the organic shape that would ordinarily exist inside the frame switched roles, and instead became its own rigid exterior? The resulting negative space suggests a kind of absence…the way that this figure has folded themselves into this impossible shape seems to keep things out rather than let them in. The effort is total, to the point of loping off half a hand. But the interior still has room, still has an exit to somewhere else.” —Dan Webb
