Beadwork matching the pattern of the quilt camouflages the word “disregarded” on the front and two stacked Xs on the backside. While the word alludes to the diminished visibility of women as we age, the symbols mark the “double cross” of being old and being a woman, our aging bodies declared unfit for society.
