Seattle artist, Buster Simpson, is internationally known for his provocative site-specific public works, Simpson explores urban environments and social structures, nature, and environmentalism with restless intelligence and humor.
For over 50 years the artist has worked with reclaimed materials and detritus to create sculptures, installations, performances and photographs that engage and challenge ideas of beauty and utility.
Buster Simpson has received four fellowships and project grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. He has participated in numerous projects throughout the United States and abroad, including Washington, Arizona, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, California, North Carolina and London, England. He has exhibited extensively, including the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC; New Museum, NY; Hudson River Museum, NY; PS1, NY; Oakland Museum, CA; Spatiozero, Rome, Italy; Foundation Mona Bismarck, Paris, France; and the National Botanic Gardens, Wales. In 2013, Buster Simpson// Surveyor, the artist’s first career retrospective exhibition, opened at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, WA. He currently has work in The Duchamp Effect at Seattle Art Museum.
