Minidoka on my mind

Memories of Childhood

Roger Shimomura published a book of silk-screens and letterpress quotes that was printed at the Lawrence Lithography workshop. The artist again turned to his Grandmother's diary (from her time in the encampment during World War II) for subject matter for this project. The final piece is a tender and very moving book.

"When I was a very young child, my family and I were interned in a camp in Idaho for two years during World War II. This book is comprised of 10 lithographs, each with one line of text, depicting my memories from that time period. They include my third birthday, the birth of my sister, having the chicken pox, and the traditional Japanese festivals that took place in the camps."
