We are pleased to present new etchings by quilt making artists from Gee's Bend, Alabama. Collaborating with master printers, several of the women have recently made these etchings under a direct contract with Paulson Press in Berkeley, CA. The etchings are the result of an innovative technique devised to make a transfer from an actual small scaled, sampler quilt to an etching plate coated with a thin layer of wax and then treated with acid to create the printable image. Both Louisiana Bendolph and Loretta Bennett are among the younger generation of quilters whose work is included in the national touring exhibition "Gee's Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt" which will open at the Tacoma Art Museum, September 22.
